Don't Blame Me!
Okay before I start this post let me say this.
Don’t just read and go on, add your own 2 cents.
I'm getting plenty of hits but most people just won’t leave a comment.
So LOOK, there it is at the bottom of the post,

Your input is valuable – it’s your county!
Now... on with the post.
PLEASE don't blame me for our Republican Governor, our Republican Lt. Governor, our Republican controlled State Senate and our Republican controlled State House being able to work together to pass the LARGEST package of new taxes ever to hit the great State of Texas while FAILING to get property tax caps to protect us all from escalating appraisals. The Governor and Lt. Governor are both honorable men who believe “in principle” in smaller government... but there is some kind of disconnect.
They really don’t understand that poll numbers are falling, not because we aren’t doing enough but rather because we are acting just like Democrat leaders and officials in the way we’re spending and taxing. They are apparently getting there input from newspapers and the massive Government Spending Lobbies who understand nothing but spend, spend, spend. I guess it’s rubbing off on the Republicans.
That is NOT what THIS Republican is all about.
Republican leaders and legislatures need to wake up and get in touch with their constituents! So what do people want in order to fix school finance? Most people seem to want SCHOOLS fixed, not just “school finance”.
Here's what I'm hearing out there.
“Cut admin to the bone then get a saw! Pay teachers a large chunk of what you just saved."
"Scale back sports programs so they’re not so distracting. (Everyone knows the benefits of sports programs but when overdone they are VERY counter productive.) Absolutely NEVER pay the coaches above the upper midrange of academic teachers – NEVER, NEVER, NEVER."
"Enough with most of those “fuzzy feel good” classes too. If we didn’t have so much of that stuff there would be plenty of time for reading, writing and arithmetic. Of course a kid needs a self esteem boost at times. When I was growing up though, I got self esteem training from the teachers who had enough of it on their own to share it as they went!"
These are the basics! Let’s get back to them.
Until then, I’ll keep fighting waste and spending on the county level.

Okay Chris!
I don’t want to be one of those guys who reads and never post but I was always taught a wise man will spend more time listening than talking. Anyway… I agree a lot with what you said about our state republican leaders not really being able to “get it together”. I’m concerned that this will cause many voters who have typically embraced a conservative philosophy to feel a retreat into liberal waters is in order. This is not what is needed! Keep in mind that I do not consider myself a conservative or liberal. However those who do embrace such practices need to keep in mind that the political meaning of the word “conservative” does not change simply because an individual ran on that platform and then neglects to observe it. If you believe that a conservative government is best and your conservative leaders are not behaving in a conservative fashion, then you need to find another conservative leader who will.
Now I can read all I want, right?

Ralap is hitting the bullseye, I am sorry to say. Our "conservative" leaders are not behaving very conservatively on some very important issues. I hope that their self-inflicted political wounds will not be fatal, because I think the alternative would be even more destructive to our country. I think Chris is correct in surmising that they must be listening to the news media and the army of paid lobbyists. And, as is needed in the education bureaucracy, some REAL surgery needs to be done to our bloated government on every level. I am counting on Chris having the courage and integrity to stand up to the local pork barrel pushers when he gets in office. We know it can be done because Cheryl Johnson has been doing it for two years.

Jimmy said most of it. Philosophical labels, like the names of the ruling parties themselves, have ceased to have meaning simply because they have been redefined by too many examples of conduct not loyal to their original values.
I keeping saying it, The [R] party has made it policy to use every step the [D] party takes to the left as license for it to step almost that far to the left too. It's like they've been joined at the hips for so long, independent or alternative thought is no longer possible.
But we're stuck with them, because it's no longer a level playing field for anyone but THEM.
